Our project will create a modern quality pavilion building providing a new hub for sporting and social/community development. It will replace the existing Pavilion on Ashbourne Recreation Ground which is both in poor condition and completely outdated but which is still used by a number of local sports clubs. The proposed new building has been designed to be energy efficient incorporating best design practice which will considerably assist future management costs.
Facilities within the existing Pavilion includes three changing rooms, a small and dilapidated kitchen, toilet facilities and showers. The current challenging financial climate means that owners Derbyshire Dales District Council do not have the resources to undertake any improvement works and use what resources they have to deliver reactive maintenance repairs. The current building does not help in maintaining participation in sport and physical activity. More importantly any growth and wider community use simply is not possible due to its condition.
A new vision is required. The new pavilion will be delivered by a new community regeneration initiative that engages local partners and has created a 'power to change' approach which has already created a new community enterprise enthusiasm across Ashbourne.
In addition, the prospect of having a new 'fit for purpose' sports and community hub to replace the existing building has already persuaded other local organisations in Ashbourne, such as St Oswald's Primary school and the 'Zone 6' youth project to develop new sport and youth programmes which will be provided through the Ashbourne Sports & Community Partnership.
